Mental Health Needs Your Help

Mental Health is an issue that touches lives everywhere.  People that cannot afford the medication cannot live "normal" lives.  Some cannot work because of the issues, others cannot cope with everyday happenings.  These people need help.  As a parent I have watched my son try daily to manage his problems.  He, and many people like him, cannot afford the medication that helps them.  This means that he depends on me, just as other people depend on their families.  It should not be this way.

We the undersigned, ask that your review policies on costs of pharmaceuticals designed for mental health.  The costs of drugs for people with bi-polar disease and schizophrenia  are extremely high.  Unfortunately, most of the people with these diseases are uninsured.  Many cannot even hold a job due to the severity of their case.

The following drugs are often prescribed and mostly very expensive for those without insurance or money:

Antipsychotics Haldol Haloperidol prescribed for:

Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Tuberous Sclerosis. and Tourette Syndrome

Largactil Chlorpromazine prescribed for Schizophrenia, and Tuberous Sclerosis

Loxtan Loxapine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder

Mellaril Thioridazine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia

Moban Mlindone prescribed for Bipolar Disorder  and Schizophrenia

Navane Thiothixene prescribed for Schizophrenia

Orap Pimozide prescribed for Tourette Syndrome, Schizophrenia, and Tuberous Sclerosis

Permitil Fluphenazine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Tourette Syndrome

Prolixin Fluphenazine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Tourette Syndrome

Serenace Haloperidol prescribed for Bi polar Disorder, Schizophrenia,  Tuberous Sclerosis. and Tourette Syndrome

Serentil Mesoridazine prescribed for Schizophrenia

Stelazine Trifluoperazine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia

Thorazine Chlorpromazine prescribed for Schizophrenia, Severe Nausea and Vomiting, and Severe Hiccups

Trilafon Perphenazine prescribed for Schizophrenia, Severe Nausea and Vomiting

Atypical Antipsychotics Clozaril Clozapine prescribed for Schizophrenia

Geodon Zirasidone prescribed for Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia

Risperdal Risperidone prescribed for Bipolar Disorder , Schizophrenia, and Psychosis

Serpquel Quetiapine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia

Zyprexa Olanzapine prescribed for Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenaia

People who cannot work because of their illness are often denied disability because being depressed and psychotic is not seen as a disability.  If you can't see the disability, then the idea is that you don't need it.

Please help these patients with the cost of their meds.  Many companies do wonderful things for patients by working with doctors and care givers.  Unfortunately, we aren't getting that kind of response from the drug companies who produce anti-psychotics in America.  Because my 22 year old son has no insurance and cannot hold a job, I am faced with the responsibility of buying his medication.  This means that I no longer have funds for retirement.  Other patients that use the same facility as my son are having these same problems.  We really need help.

Thank you in advance for your time spent reading this and for any help that you can give.
