Petition To Preserve One of Oakland's Most Historical Night Clubs as a Live Music Venue: Eli's Mile High Club.
Recently new ownership has taken over the business at Eli's Mile High Club on 3629 Martin Luther King Way. The Cabaret license is in application process, and there has been some opposition due to neighborhood problems with the club concerning noise, parking issues, and safety because of the negligence of previous ownership. The new owner Geoff Melville and his assistant Jason Herbers have been taking major steps to meet with the community and address any and all issues surrounding the club with solutions. Solutions such as:
-One security guard for every 45 people.
-Making sound muffling upgrades to dull down exterior noise and increase sound quality within the structure.
-Making sure security maintains the frontage and the back patio as well to increase neighborhood safety and control noise levels outside the club.
-Work closely with neighbor to do sound checks to maintain reasonable noise level and not create disturbance.
- Advise patrons with noisy sound systems or motorcycles to keep it as low as possible so as not to disturb the neighborhood.
-Parking cones have been placed out every evening (with the exception of one evening. sorry Nolan.) to prevent patrons from parking in neighboring driveways or encroaching on small neighboring entrance ways.
-Direct contact lines to address neighborhood problems immediately have been setup so issues can be resolved by security within minutes of occurrence.
-All barkeeps have been advised to cut off service to anyone who appears to have been overly intoxicated and pose a threat to themselves or anyone else.
Eli's Mile High Club is a wonderful venue rich in musical history and can be a positive force in the community's music culture. Everyone from James Brown to Etta James has graced the stage of this historic landmark and it should be recognized as so. I sign this petition today because I believe that under the new ownership of Geoff Melville and under the diligent supervision of his assistant Jason Herbers this club should remain a live music venue and can do so in a responsible manner:
