FOR THE CESSATION OF THE MASSACRE OF PIGEONS
AND THE BUILDING OF MUNICIPAL PIGEON LOFTS
We are petitioning the Mayor of Lisboa for the cessation of pigeon captures followed by euthanasia with carbon dioxide gas.
We wish to see such methods replaced by humane ones, such as the installation of municipal lofts where the pigeons are fed and looked
after. This method allows the breeding to be controlled and solves the problem of any inconvenience they may cause.
The municipal lofts of Paris, including the pilot project of Porte de Vanves, and those of Pantin, Sénat-Paris and Versailles, as well as
those from Cannes, Montpellier, Nancy, Turcoing and other cities in France, other European countries (Germany, the UK, the
Netherlands and Switzerland) and the USA, have already proved their efficacy.
Captures are inefficient as a method of pigeon population control in the long term. They are a heavy financial burden on the taxpayer
and they are, furthermore, extremely cruel. Animal suffering ought to be relegated to the past.
