Tell School to STOP "Possum Throwing Contest"!

  • by: Animal Advocates

Students from the Colyton School in Manawatu, New Zealand ran around and shot possums and then competed in a carcass tossing contest where they swung possums around by the tail and flung them across the playground. Prizes were also given for the heaviest and ugliest.

The school's principal Colin Martin responded by saying the event  helped children engage with the outdoors and learn about humane ways of killing possums. That it was really about "letting kids be kids".

Since when does letting kids be kids involve letting them run around with guns shooting animals and making a contest out of throwing their corpses around?
Stop the Possum Throwing Contest and teach children compassion for animals.
