Worldwide Ban of Genetically Modified Organisms

To All Concerned Citizens,

Please call for emergency action and legislature on behalf of the future of food safety for the entire planet to immediately make it unlawful to propagate, cultivate, raise or grow plants, animals and other organisms that have been genetically modified and provide for penalties and destruction of such organisms.

Genetically modified organisms represent a global bio-hazard. Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs are contaminates to agriculture, human health and safety. GMO crops threaten to aggressively take over and contaminate all natural seed around the globe.

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) urges doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients. They cite animal studies showing organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility.

Time is of the essence. Every moment we tolerate genetically modified  organisms on our planet is another spore in the wind.

With Gratitude,

Global Citizen
We the undersigned call for emergency action and legislature on behalf of the future of food safety for the entire planet to immediately make it unlawful to propagate, cultivate, raise or grow plants, animals and other organisms that have been genetically modified and provide for penalties and destruction of such organisms. Genetically modified organisms threaten life and land on our planet and represent a global bio-hazard. We respectfully collect to request a world wide ban on genetically engineered organisms.

Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs are contaminates to agriculture, human health and safety. The cultivation of GMO crops threatens the integrity of our water supply through their use of ground polluting pesticides. GMO crops are aggressive and pervasive, and contaminate organic fields and organic seed, mutating the seed and permanently altering the land, disabling it for organic food growing. GMOs  are heavily reliant on the use of pesticides which contain chemicals that  have been used in chemical warfare by the US Government, 2,4-D, a chemical component of Agent Orange. The plants are engineered to resist Roundup herbicide so they can be sprayed entirely killing every other plant but the genetically engineered Roundup resistant plant.

Roundup Ready crops breed superweeds and superbugs who have become resistant to the chemicals and have mutated themselves to survive against the insecticide. Roundup has been linked to sterility, endocrine disruption, birth defects, and cancer. A University of Caen study found human placenta cells exposed at low concentrations to glyphosate, an active ingredient in Roundup, had large proportions of the placenta begin to die after just eighteen hours of exposure.

A 2005 biology study at University of Pittsburgh found the effect of Roundup on non-target organisms in a natural setting caused a 70 percent decline in amphibian biodiversity and an 86 percent decline in total mass of tadpoles. Two varieties of tadpoles were nearly eliminated. The increased use of the chemicals and herbicides that GMOs are reliant on, dangerous for all species.

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) urges doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients. They cite animal studies showing organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility. The American Public Health Association and American Nurses Association condemn the use of GM bovine growth hormone, because the milk from treated cows has more of the hormone IGF-1 which is linked to cancer.

According to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in 1992, "When an activity raises threats to the environment or human health, precautionary measures should be taken, even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically. In this context, the proponent of an activity, rather than the public, should bear the burden of proof (of the safety of the activity)."

There is not sufficient evidence to release these products for consumption because it is nearly impossible to track GMO effects without proper labeling. Monsanto, Syngenta and other GMO corporations have fought the labeling of Genetically Modified Organisms in food products in the US. The companies know if the public is well aware of what GMOs are and what they are in, they will refuse to eat them and refuse to buy them.

The GMO corporations suggest their work is increasing crop yield however, according to The Union of Concerned Scientists, [Gurain-Sherman,D. 2009 Failure to yield: evaluating the performance of genetically engineered crops. Cambridge (MA)]: "The several thousand field trials over the last 20 years for genes aimed at increasing operational or intrinsic yield (of crops) indicate a significant undertaking. Yet none of these field trials have resulted in increased yield in commercialized major food/feed crops, with the exception of Bt corn."

There is no undoing of the damage of GMO crops in particular, as they spread engineered spores in the wind and contaminate every field they can reach destroying native seed, so there is no cleaning up after this mess. The allowance of GMOs means the eventual total destruction of pure, natural, organic foods as they will contaminate every crop in sight on an agricultural level alone. GM corporations seek mono-cropping in order to control seed and global food supply and they threaten the security of the people of Earth to provide for themselves nutritious food.

Numerous countries have banned GMOs or have mandatory regulations requiring labeling of such toxic products. Those of us here in the United States and other countries are being sold without our consent as experimental humans to test genetic modification on. Our land and it's ability to grow edible food, our future, and many of our politicians are for sale. We are in danger and the harm is world wide.

At current, the majority of the world's GMO field testing is occurring in Hawaii, one of the most beloved destinations on the planet. The lush, tropical biodiversity enjoyed there is threatened by viral organisms engineered to take over anything in it's path to necessitate the guaranteed use of further pesticides and the eventual ownership of seed by corporations. Already the Hawaiian papaya has been almost completely consumed by the GMO rainbow papaya.

The large majority of Hawaii's food is imported or shipped and yet the Hawaii State Government has allowed GMO corporations to grow thousands of acres of inedible crops on this precious land. Other countries are beginning to reject Hawaiian produce for risk of GMO contamination. When the inedible crops contaminate the edible crops, we will be left with no choice. The majority of US corn, canola and soy is already GMO now.

According to the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) more than half the world’s population, 60% or 4 billion people, live in the 29 countries planting biotech crops. In the US alone, 170,502,712 acres or 69,000,000 hectares are GMO maize, soybean, cotton, canola, sugarbeet, alfalfa, zucchini, papaya and squash. In Brazil, 30,300,000 hectares or 74,872,930 acres are devoted to GMO soybeans, maize and cotton with Argentina not far behind.

In order to protect the entire planet from rampant, unpredictable, aggressive GMOs and their chemical counterparts, I urge you to ban Genetically Modified Organisms for the health, well being, safety and future of the world and our agriculture, our animals and our own DNA.

I urge you to create legislature to fund the purchasing of small farms by independent farmers. Take the money you have been using to subsidize GMO farms and temporarily subsidize the natural farmer instead until our global economy recovers from it's nutritional deficiency. Please provide grants and create achievable, low-interest lending for small farmers to build sustainable, GMO-free farms so that we can begin to repair the damage of the food safety crisis we are in. Please create legislature to fund community gardens and implement sustainable agriculture education in all the school systems.

We call for emergency action and legislature on behalf of the future of food safety for the entire planet to immediately make it unlawful to propagate, cultivate, raise or grow plants, animals and other organisms that have been genetically modified and provide for penalties and destruction of such organisms.

Time is of the essence. Every moment we tolerate genetically modified  organisms on our planet is another spore in the wind.
