YOMIURI LAND CO. LTD in Japan will build a facility , "Entertainment Botanical Garden". They are planning a "show" featuring small animals. While we do not currently know what species are being considered for the show, we must state our strong objection to animals being used in unnatural, circus-like shows, perfomances, stunts, tricks or in situations where the animals are being made to act like humans or are otherwise degraded.
These kinds of shows misrepresent animals and have no educational value. In additon, many of them are cruel to the animals involved.
Japan has been harshly critisized in the past by concerned Japanese residents, tourists and animal welfare/wildlfe protection organizations throughout the world due to the poor treatment of captive wild animals.
We also know that visitors can fully enjoy Japanese gardens and beautiful flowers and other botanical displays in a facility without having live animals performing shows.
We would like them to give up their plan.
