Pass the Jane Goodall Act to Protect Apes, Elephants and Cetaceans!

A groundbreaking piece of legislation has been introduced in Canada that needs our support! The law, called the Jane Goodall Act after famous conservationist Jane Goodall, would make sweeping changes to current animal rights laws. Most notably, the bill would protect great apes, elephants and other animals in captivity. Canada already passed a law in 2019 phasing out captive whales and dolphins, so we need to help keep that momentum going to do even more!

Will you sign the petition supporting the Jane Goodall Act?

The act would totally ban new captivity of great apes and elephants in Canada as well as strengthen laws banning the import of elephant parts from elsewhere in the world as "trophies." The most unique and potentially most important part of the bill grants "legal standing" to great apes, elephants and cetaceans (whales, dolphins and others). This is groundbreaking because then the courts consider them as sentient beings rather than property and can rule in their best interest during disputes.

Great apes, elephants and cetaceans are sentient beings and they deserve to be treated with that kind of respect. Humans have abused them for far too long and it must end! Please join us in showing Canadien lawmakers how much public support there is for this massive animal protection bill by signing the petition.

Right now there are 33 great apes and 20 elephants living in captivity in Canada. It's so important that we protect the animals already imprisoned who cannot be released back into the wild and prevent any future animals from being held. Life in captivity is unnatural and cruel to these wild animals. They deserve to live free lives with their own families.
