Turn Off 113 Lights in Park During Bird Migration

Join over two dozen community members already calling on the Parks Commission, Police Chief, and Mayor to turn off these lights during bird migration times (Aug 15-Nov 15; Apr 1-May 31).

Light pollution contributes to the death of millions of birds in the U.S. each year. Many migratory birds, such as songbirds, sandpipers, herons, egrets, and ospreys, travel at night. As they do, they are increasingly exposed to light pollution, with major increases in nighttime lighting over the past 50 years – a time during which North America has lost more than 1 in 4 birds, according to Audubon.
