KEEP DESOTO’s P.D. & 911 LOCAL: SAY NO TO JEFFCO!
The last DeSoto city council meeting on the 10th of July the a great start in the right direction. Finally voices were heard and eyes were opened however we are still in jeopardy of losing our local police officers, and dispatchers, to Jefferson County Sheriffs Office. It seems that only as of recently has the community and the city council been aware of all of the issues that are really going on. Some of the city’s leaders have been using this as a method to work on their on political agenda and some have been blindly following the rest. Thank you to the few who have remained loyal to this city from the beginning. General consensus is that we need a change in leadership, and this petition is to prove to them that we are united as a whole and will work together to do what is best for our city even if they can’t. Lets join together and help protect those that protect our businesses, homes, children and best interests when we need them the most! Back the thin gold line and BACK THE BLUE! Leave our police officers and dispatchers here, SAY NO TO JEFFCO!
Without local police officers here is a short list of what you will loose.
-Extra patrols at residential areas for vacation watch and night watch.
- Extra patrols at local businesses that have already been subject to vandalism and burglaries
-NIGHT EYES- door to door to checks to ensure the safety and security of businesses on Main Street and other major plaza strips.
-response times: Response has tripled and the will only get worse as we continue. The averaging time for a responding officer from the time call was received to the time an officer arrived onscene has gone up tremendously. Will you be able to wait 10 sometimes 15 minutes in an emergency?
-School monitoring. Selective enforcement, foot patrols, Dare resource officers, ALICE training and the general sense of security that our schools and kids have been struggling so hard to build will be completely lost.
-Code enforcement
-Trespassing forms
-Station requests 24/7
-Public works after hours calls
-Community involvements; Parades, fundraising, school programs, church functions and all other charities will all need 2 or more officers for all major functions. Will JCSO be available for those as well?
City administration and council members can not answer any of those questions or advise what will still be available but are quick to make a decision without fully thinking it though! Just like Herculaneum we are not and will not be a main priority of Jefferson County. They must also deal with their own call volume and even though we are grateful for their assistance we must learn from the mistakes of other city’s that came before us.
