BAN LARGE SCALE DOG BREEDING ESTABLISHMENTS IN IRELAND NOW

Ireland is the Puppy Farm capital of Europe. One of the largest dog breeding facilities holds upwards of 700 breeding bitches. We want to put an end to large scale breeding like this where the animals are being kept in deplorable conditions, do not have the Five Freedoms, unsocialised and unloved. We want stronger and stricter legislation to protect the welfare of these vulnerable dogs and where animal welfare is put first. Puppy farming has no place in a modern, progressive society

We, the undersigned, ask to put an end to large scale dog breeding facilities in Ireland, otherwise known as puppy farms.  Premises where dogs are being kept in unsanitary, dark conditions, unsocialised with humans, unsocialised with other dogs, are not acceptable in any shape or form.

We ask that stricter and more powerful, meaningful legislation is brought in as a matter of urgency. Ireland is the Puppy Farm capital of Europe which is a tragedy.  We would like to see positive reform where Ireland does not have this terrible reputation towards animals and animal welfare.

We ask that regular surprise inspections take place on dog breeding establishments, that inspections take place in the company of SPCA inspectors and that a strict regulatory body is set up to monitor the conditions, license renewals and inspection procedures of authorities in charge of this.

We hope to see an end of large scale puppy farming in Ireland in the near future. Its doable with the help of the actions of those in authority willing to make that positive change for Ireland and its animals.

Sincerely,
