DEMAND JUSTICE FOR ANGEL, THE FERRET BURNED TO DEATH IN OVEN

  • by: Robin C
  • recipient: Judge Gillian Abramson

Ivana Clifford is a homeless, pregnant woman taken in by Cara Murray and her boyfriend when Clifford and her husband had nowhere to go. Clifford claims that Murray stole her clothes and, for revenge, put Murray's 2-year old female ferret, Angel, in the oven and turned it on. The ferret died. She is charged in Hillsborough County Superior Court with a Class B felony which is punishable by up to 7 years in prison.

The defense argued that Clifford had no prior record and wouldn't be a risk to the public. This statement is ridiculous. She subjected an innocent and completely defenseless creature to a death we can all agree is horrifying. The defendant's husband was asking the court for no incarceration time due to a special circumstance. Giving this defendant no jail time, or inadequate jail time, sends a message to the public that animal cruelty is not a serious crime.

We are asking the judge assigned to Clifford's case to sentence her to the maximum 7 years in prison.

Update #16 years ago
The defendant, Ivana Clifford, has a court date of January 4, 2018, for a dispositional conference. The purpose of this conference is for Clifford's attorney to inform the court whether there will be a trial or plea. I will keep everyone updated as I learn of new developments in this case.
