Stop Using Live Cats at University of Virginia

  • by: Animal Advocates
  • recipient: University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan, Ph.D,- Senior Assistant to the President, Jon Bowen

The University of Virgina contiues the cruel and outdated use live cats in their medical school for its pediatric residency program. Anatomical and physiological differences between cats and humans should make this type of training obsolete since the university already has a state-of-the-art medical simulation center that can easily provide nonanimal training methods.

We ask the University of Virginia to stop using live cats,- and join the 94% of pediatrics residency programs in the United States that use human-based methods for this type of training. Stop the cruel and unnecessary practice immediately.
