In the comics, it is now canon that Jughead Jones is an asexual. He's not against having a romantic relationship with a girl, but has no interest in sex. There are no TV show characters asexual other than Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. And Sheldon is a stereotype. This would be a big move for tv is CW carried out with giving Jughead his canon sexuality.
What TV needs most is asexuality being recognized, not asexual erasure like what CW is trying to do to the Jughead character. The last thing we need is a mainstream television show with sex obsessed characters. I find the classic show 'Friends' very funny, but as an asexual myself, I sometimes just can't watch anymore because these characters have such a strong sex drive, and it feels like they aren't even making good life choices because of this drive. Asexuals need a show that they can relate to. They can look at Jughead and say, "There's a guy who's like me, that understands that relationships don't have to involve disgusting intercourse." Asexuals really don't have a fictional character like that in mainstream media that they can relate to.
Having Jughead Jones as an asexual would be great because it bends the stereotype that all asexuals are anti social nerds, Jughead is a cool guy, and cool guys don't have to be obsessed with sex. Sign this petition to make sure CW doesn't mess with our beloved Jughead Jones and make him another one of the many hormonal sex obsessed teenagers on tv today.
