Problem- Boater are allowed to run at high rates of speed in the shallow water habitats along Charlotte Harbor's shorelines. This behavior is not only unsafe for fellow boaters but is a even bigger detriment to the environment. Charlotte Harbor is one of Florida's biggest natural estuaries, many endangered species inhabit the shallow water shorelines (sawfish and manatees to name a few) and depend on these delicate areas to ensure sustainability. Also this behavior is very destructive to seagrass in these areas which all fish in the harbor depend on.
Solution- We need law in place to prevent this behavior from destructing our prized estuary any further. This is not an unreasonable request as most of the surrounding counties have similar laws prohibiting this behavior.
