The City of Safety Harbor intends to site modify Oakbrook Plaza (southwest corner of McMullen Booth Rd/Enterprise) from commercial restricted to hotel, and allow a Candlewood Suites Extended Stay Hotel to open in that location. Extended-stays appeal to a subset of clientele seeking affordable semi-permanent housing solutions which allow circumvention of traditional longer-term lease application processes, i.e. no background, credit, or reference checks, and no scrutiny by a homeowner's association. Extended-stays are, in some cases, associated with significantly increased criminal activities (drugs, prostitution, etc.) and police calls for service. Safety Harbor, and Clearwater, do not need another Extended Stay hotel. Please sign the Petition, pass it on to your friends and neighbors and attend the Zoning and Planning Meeting in Safety Harbor on June 13, 2018 at 6:30 pm at City Hall, 150 Main Street, Safety Harbor, FL 34695 to voice your opposition to the modification.
