Act Fast and Help Us Protect the Tax-Payers of Wheeling, IL!

The Board of Trustees for the Village of Wheeling is voting to authorize the Village President to execute a deed for the transfer of airport property to JV Global Services. This property is adjacent to additional property that JV Global is also under contract to purchase (currently zoned R-1A, Residential).

If this sale is allowed, JV Global will have +/- 8 acres on which they intend to build a transportation center. That's 8 acres of tractor-trailer parking and related activities! They have also petitioned the Village to have the entire area rezoned to I-3 with a text amendment and special use purpose. This means they want to rezone it all to an Industrial use AND they need a text amendment and special purpose added to the zoning code to make the proposed use of the land allowable (in other words, it doesn't fit any existing allowable use of the land).

If successful, this transportation center will be immediately adjacent to an existing neighborhood. It will significantly DECREASE the property values of the affected home owners and make it almost impossible for them to sell their homes to anyone except JV Global (who has already approached at least one home owner offering less than half of the home's previous purchase price).

Further, the transportation serves no real benefit to the Village other than the initial sales price. The proposed use will only generate the same amount of property taxes that are already generated by the adjacent neighborhood. It will NOT generate anywhere near the sales tax revenue or creation of jobs that many other uses of the land could provide (for example a hotel, restaurants, shopping, etc.).

Tell Wheeling to OPPOSE this sale and wait for a land use that better serves our community and the Village's long-term financial interests. Additionally, tell Wheeling to OPPOSE the rezoning request and protect it's tax-payers' financial interests.
