Currently the dogs and cats in most Manila pounds are crammed in cages, usually unclean. They are reportedly underfed, if not left unfed. They way they are euthanized or disposed of by the caretaker or city veterinarian is veiled in secrecy. Majority of the pounds are NOT open to the public so animals cannot be claimed by their owners, rescued or adopted. The pounds are their graveyards.
Please view the news video about the NAVOTAS city pound, by the reputable Philippine TV station, GMA 7 . It depicts the dogs and cats living in filth, their cages exposed to the elements, their food inedible and thrown to the floor. Some animals are dead or whining in agony in their cages.
We respectfully urge the Mayors, to: Create a SYSTEM OF ACCOUNTING for each animal in the pound, their disposition and method of euthanasia. Allow VOLUNTEERS who will feed, exercise the animals and help clean the pounds. OPEN the POUNDS to the PUBLIC to allow reunfication of animals with their owners, rescue or adoption. Keep DOG MEAT SMUGGLERS from taking them.
They may not look like the pedigreed dog and cats that we like to pamper, but they are also living beings that are capable of feeling pain and suffering.
