Demand that Cornwall Council Declares a Climate Emergency NOW!

* At the full Council Metting on the 22 Jan the Council unanimously accepted an amended motion to declare a Climate Emergency and commit to being carbon neutral. Thank you and well done!

The naturalist Sir David Attenborough has said climate change is humanity's greatest threat in thousands of years and it could lead to the collapse of civilisations and the extinction of "much of the natural world".
"We have 12 years to limit climate change catastrophe, warns UN - Urgent changes needed to cut risk of extreme heat, drought, floods and poverty, says IPCC"
Our Government is ignoring these warnings in favour of short term gains. Our Government is not on target to meet the environmental commitments it made in Paris in 2015.
We need to send a message by getting Cornwall Council to be a trailblazing Council like Bristol, Manchester, Frome, the Forest of Dean, Trafford and the growing the number of councils that are declaring an emergency. Declaring a Climate Emergency means committing to being carbon neutral by 2030 while we still have a chance to potentially avert the worst of the scientific predictions currently being made.  Cornwall Council is meeting on the 22nd January and has the potential to declare a Climate Emergency NOW, before it is too late.  Please sign this petition, and if you are able to contact your local councillor to ask them to support the motion on the 22nd please do so.  Many thanks

Update #25 years ago
I am pleased to report that today CC passed a motion to declare a climate emergency!
This petition was mentioned in the opening sentence of a Councillor who submitted an amendment to change an existing motion to include the word 'emergency' and include a stronger commitment to becoming carbon neutral.
I am grateful to all of the people working to make this happen and I am also grateful to all of you who signed and shared this petition.
Thank you!

Thank you; I am genuinely grateful for what you have done. This issue is so important to our children's future wellbeing and you have helped so much by signing; but we still need many more signatures to make the council listen.
I've been using email, FB and Twitter to contact friends, celebs and organisations who may have an interest, friend or follower in Cornwall. Is there possibly anything more you could you do, please, to encourage more people to sign?
Thank you so much
