The Gulf Coast Mental Health crisis continues…
The Mental Health Commission Board at GCMHC is comprised of members appointed by their respective Board of Supervisors in Harrison, Hancock and Stone counties. These Commissioners have a fiduciary obligation to their counties and the region. Our current Commissioners claim to have had no knowledge or awareness of the current crisis we are in, before it was announced in July 2019. How is it possible that they had NO knowledge of the situation? Especially troubling is that Candy Murphy has held the Board position for 20 years?
Despite the negligence of the commission, our Board of Supervisors have failed to fire the commissioners even though they have failed the Mental Health System and the citizens of Harrison, Hancock and Stone Counties. A motion was made at the last Harrison County BOS meeting by Marlin Lander, for the resignation of their seated Commissioner, Laura Hasty, but not one would second the motion.
The patients who require care, the citizens of our community, and the professionals who provide the mental health services, deserve accountability for the current crisis we are in.
This petition will be presented to each of the Boards. Your signature of support is needed to move forward in rebuilding trust and accountability for our community.
