How Many More Animals Will Suffer From Terrible Abuse Before Karachi Zoo Is Shut Down?

Yet again, Karachi Zoo is in the news for poor management, animal neglect, and rampant abuse. This time, the zoo is coming under fire over food shortages for animals and disputes between the former zoo director - who is apparently refusing to vacate his position - and the newly appointed director.

Even worse, animals are dying. Visitors have shared that a lioness recently died alone in her enclosure. Then, on April 22, Noor Jehan the elephant died after staff neglected her following a dangerous fall.

For years, animal rights advocates have been begging local authorities in Pakistan to shut down this horrific zoo for good. It is time for officials to finally listen!

Sign now to tell Karachi Municipal Commissioner Syed Shujaat Hussain to shut down Karachi Zoo for good!

Noor Jehan the elephant was already struggling to fight off previous ailments when she fell into a pond. Veterinarians said the zoo had neglected her so badly, her illnesses wore away at her until she became unable to stand on her own. Once she fell, staff apparently left her there for far too long.

Now the rescue organization that worked to try and save Noor Jehan, Four Paws, has added its voice to the chorus, demanding that officials close this deadly zoo.

In the past few years, celebrities and activists have sounded the alarm on multiple occasions because of animals at the zoo enduring traumatic conditions. One animal, Ramoo the bear, was starving and without water. Another young elephant fought for her life while staff forced her to give rides to children.

Do we need any more evidence that this zoo is miserable for the animals who are forced to live there?

New details about the drama between the current and former zoo director should put the nail in the coffin: it is clear that this zoo simply cannot be run safely. Even with two leaders, the zoo hasn't managed to adequately feed its captive animals!

All animals held in captivity at Karachi Zoo should be sent to sanctuaries where they can finally live in peace. Authorities in Pakistan must finally shut down the zoo! Sign the petition now if you agree!
