KEEP RED HILL LAKE MAINTAINED AND OPEN YEAR ROUND

In recent years RED HILL LAKE RECREATION AREA, located in Milam, Texas, in the midst of the Sabine National Forest, has been neglected and its facilities have been allowed to deteriorate or gone without repair, to the detriment of this wonderful amenity, the local community, the people of Sabine County, and the Great State of Texas. May it also be noted: Sabine National Forest has too few hiking trails, camp sites, horse or biking trails. Visitors and residents eager to enjoy Sabine National Forest, have a shortage of maintained trails and areas to enjoy the public forests. Red Hill Lake Recreation Area has beautiful floral and fauna year round. Paved roads, the beautiful lake , and campsites create a wonderful area to enjoy all year long. However, the past few years this park has been available to the public ONLY Memorial Day through Labor Day, that is only approximately 107 days out of 365 days a year, during the hottest time of the year.  This means 71% of the year the park is closed to public use!  Camping Site facilities have fallen into disrepair. Families cannot plan Fall or Spring reunions, campers cannot camp in the cooler months or during local events, hikers cannot enjoy the wildflowers, changing seasonal colors, nor the picnic areas, etc.

May it be noted, other National Parks throughout Texas and throughout the Nation ARE maintained all year.

By signing this petition you are demonstrating to the US Forest Service and the appropriate bodies that there is significant desire and demand for RED HILL LAKE RECREATION AREA be maintained in good working order, and be available to the public all year long.

We the undersigned call upon the US Forest Service to maintain and repair RED HILL LAKE RECREATION AREA fully, and leave the facility open for public all year long.

Update #15 years ago
UPDATE: Thank you for signing Red Lake Petition! It was forwarded to John Cornyn, Louie Gohmert and the US Forest Service. There could be hope to expand the operational days. It needs lots of pushing to our elected officials. Please contact John at https://www.cornyn.senate.gov/contact or Louie at https://gohmert.house.gov/contact/. It will take interest from them, for the US Forest Service to allocate funds and effort in the direction of RHL and the Sabine National Forest, as a whole.
