Lift the food stamp Ban in South Carolina for residents with convicted Felony drug charge

I recently moved from Pennsylvania to South Carolina and realized that was a BIG mistake, because 4 years ago in Pennsylvania my husband and I both were charged with a Felony Drug charge and learned that we could not receive the benefits we needed in order to get back on our feet here, They told me my husband and I do not qualify because we both have Felony drug charges but that we could apply for our children, which we did and they denied me again saying my income was too much. My point is this law in place is holding Back the people who want to change, who learned from their mistakes, Thid law in place is forcing a lot of people getting out of prison to reoffend, forcing them back into the same life style weather they learned from their mistakes or not, when a person or persons children are faced with hunger they will resort to doing whatever it takes to get something to eat, weather that be to rob someone or for a person to go with what they know…. Survive by any means…. And if that means to sell some drugs so they and/or their family can eat.
In Pennsylvania there are many programs to help Felons, even Felons convicted of a Drug charge, to help them get back into society and succeed at a sober normal life, they can get food stamps, cash assistance, jobs, and help with housing. Their recidivism rate is lower for this reason!!
There are people who change and want to do better, people who made mistakes and learned from them, but a person can only do as much as they can until they hit a stump in the road and are punished beyond their prison sentence everyday for the mistakes they made, which discourages people who are trying to do better
The. You push a persons back agonist the wall they will react, and most often this is someone reoffending. You will have people committing a crime just to end up back in prison where they know they will get 3 free meals a day… where as on the streets they are forced to starve.
Let’s reconsider the ban on food stamps for people with Convicted Felony drug charges
