Sessions: Don't Take State-Approved Marijuana Away!

  • recipient: Attorney General Jeff Sessions
Despite still being classified as a controlled, dangerous substance at the federal level, twenty-nine states have legalized marijuana in some form, with more states considering legalizing marijuana for medical and/or recreational use every year. It’s becoming abundantly clear that voters want legal weed.

Unfortunately, Attorney General Jeff Sessions holds archaic, outdated views on marijuana and has indicated a desire to reverse the legalization trend. He’s made public comments saying that weed is dangerous and “not something to laugh about.” He believes “that good people don't smoke marijuana.” And he’s said that weed “is only slightly less awful” than heroin, a statement that is categorically false.

Just last week, Sessions sent letters to the governors of Washington, Colorado, Oregon, and Alaska saying that he had “serious concerns” about the effects of legalization in their states.

Many are concerned that these comments and letters are signaling Sessions’ intent to reverse the Obama-era decision to regulate state marijuana sales but end federal raids of dispensaries. Rather than protecting the will of the states and their voters, Sessions appears to want to bring back the failed War on Drugs and crack down on marijuana.

Please sign this petition demanding that Jeff Sessions back off of states that support legalization and end any efforts to take state-approved weed away!
