Restore Reasonable Pool Access Hours for Avalon Boonton Residents

  • recipient: Resident's of the Avalon Boonton

The Issue
We, the residents of Avalon Boonton, are requesting immediate action to address the unreasonable restrictions recently imposed on our pool facility access. The current policy severely limits our ability to use an amenity that is a key part of our housing agreement and monthly fees.

Current Problematic Schedule

Pool closes 15 minutes every hour for water testing (cited as "vendor requirement")
Pool closes 30 minutes daily for lunch break
Pool closes at 6:45 PM (posted hours are 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
No evening extension option to accommodate work schedules. - management stated late hours would "never be considered"

The Math: We're Losing 25%+ of Pool Access Time
Based on an 8-hour pool day (11 AM - 7 PM), residents are losing:

8 × 15 minutes = 2 hours daily for hourly closures
30 minutes daily for lunch = 0.5 hours daily
Total lost time: 2.5 hours out of 8 hours = 31% reduction in access

This represents a significant decrease in the value of an amenity we pay for through our rent/fees.

Our Reasonable Requests
We understand safety is important, but we believe there are better solutions:

Request vendor review alternatives - Ask the pool company to explore water testing methods that don't require full pool evacuation (continuous monitoring systems, testing during low-usage times, or reduced frequency during peak hours)

Stagger testing schedule - Concentrate water testing during off-peak hours (11 AM - 2 PM) rather than disrupting prime evening hours when working residents can finally use the pool

Reduce closure duration - If full evacuation is truly necessary, limit it to 5-10 minutes maximum rather than 15 minutes, as water testing typically takes only a few minutes

Lunch break should overlap with scheduled coverage.

Extend evening hours at least one night per week until 9:00 PM to accommodate residents who work standard business hours

Transparent scheduling - post actual closing times (if pool closes at 6:45 PM, don't advertise 7:00 PM hours)

Get a second opinion - Consult with other pool service companies to verify if these frequent closures are truly industry standard, as most apartment pools don't close every hour and this has never been an issue here before.

Why This Matters

Many residents work during the day and rely on evening pool access (4 PM - 7 PM), which is now interrupted every hour
We pay premium rent for these amenities through our housing costs
The pool is often a key factor in residents' decision to live at Avalon Boonton
Current restrictions disproportionately impact working professionals and families
Most apartment pools do not require hourly evacuations - this appears to be an unusually restrictive policy
The timing seems suspicious: these closures began recently despite the pool operating normally in previous seasons
