Ending the financial burden of police negligence and brutality settlements on the tax payer.

Every day there is another story in the news or on social media about another officer who crossed the line and violated the rights of a civilian, causing injury or death. Most of the time these cases never make it to a court of law. They are settled with huge payments coming from taxpayer funded reserves. These settlements cost taxpayers millions of dollars each year in every state. This petition proposes that the federal and state governments end this burden on the tax payer by taking these settlements out of police pension funds, or forfeiture of personal assets and funds. By placing the financial liability on officers themselves, good officers will be more likely to report so called "bad apple's" or officers who break the law, violate department procedure, or violate the civil rights of civilians.

This petition also proposes that all officers be required by law, to be eligible for tax payer funded employment, be required to undergo random and regular drug testing by an independent agency, and psychological testing every 3 to 6 months to insure the proper mental health to perform such a demanding and stressful job.

By presentation of this petition, We The People have stated our frustration in the current standard and practices involve with police settlements, and demand that we not be burdened by this financial misappropriation of funds by departments who can not or will not train and police their own. We demand that legislation be put forth at the earliest opportunity to rectify the flaws in the current system.
