This Politician Says There Is "No Such Crime" as Date Rape

Theresa May's new Housing Advisor Roger Scruton has a long history of bigoted and hateful public statements. He has previously argued in the Sunday Times that children should be instilled with a feeling of "revulsion" towards homosexuals, and challenged the rights of same-sex couples to adopt.

He has also publicly made antisemetic and Islamaphobic comments.

Now it has come to light that Scruton has publicly said that there is "no such crime" as date rape. A video of the shocking statements made during in a 2005 lecture has been unearthed and published online by Buzzfeed News.

Scruton's new role will see him advising the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. He will be chair of a new public body championing beautiful buildings. The person in this role should be someone who respects the beautifully diverse communities and humanity of the UK public.

Scruton's appointment sends a very dark message to sexual minorities, women, and religious minorities. Please sign this petition to demand that Theresa May sack Roger Scruton.

Together we can make it clear that we do not want hateful bigots in public service roles. The UK's diversity is beautiful and worth protecting.

PM Theresa May:

Roger Scruton, your recently appointed Housing Advisor, is not fit for his public role.

In addition to a long history of hateful comments about homosexuals, Jewish people and Islam, it is now revealed that he has publicly stated there is "no such crime" as date rape.

To respect the rights and wellbeing of women, religious minorities and sexual minorities, Roger Scruton must be removed from public office. Those who serve the public must represent their interests, not publicly attack their basic dignity and right to exist.
