Please help save our pit bulls in Broward County!
“Barbara Sharief, Vice Mayor of the Broward County Commission, will introduce a motion today to make it illegal to “own and keep” American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers — or any dog that may “conform” to a pit bull breed.”

We are asking the Commission to redirect their motion to punish people who mistreat or fight their dogs, as opposed to punishing an entire breed. These dogs are mistreated, malnourished, tortured and forced to fight while their "owners" profit from their misfortunes or simply do not care what becomes of the lives of what they consider "burdens" on their time and money. This level of cruelty and heartlessness is what needs to be fought against, NOT the dogs who have no say in the matter.
These are our family pets. Many of us have had pit bulls our entire lives without any "attacks" or other "incidents." They are irreplaceable parts of our lives and we must speak up for them since they cannot speak for themselves.
**This is personal for those of us who love our pitties and especially for my family. We have two pit bulls and they are the sweetest, most loving dogs we have ever had (and our family has adopted several dogs since I was 4). They sleep with us, eat out of our hands (and sometimes our mouths if they see an opening) and bring so much joy to our lives. They have NEVER threatened us or any other human in any way. Please help us to save these innocent animals from persecution...for us and all pit bull owners.

Dear Broward County Commissioners,
We strongly object against BSL in Broward County and ask you to kindly reconsider the direction of this motion. The deeds should be punished, not the breed. Animal abuse and dog fighting is definitely a crime and should be punished by jail time and penalties, but this is NOT the fault of the dogs. They are mistreated, malnourished, and forced into a life of violence. If given the choice, they are like any other dogs. Discrimination against German Shepherds, Rottweilers and Dobermans has also been proven to be more a question of fear combined with mistreatment by owners than any particular fault on the side of the breed. However, this should not infringe on the rights of responsible owners. Pets are part of our families and we love them; we don't want to lose the right to have our dogs due to the actions of some individuals. We would like you to redirect and rewrite your motion to punish the actions of the irresponsible and cruel owners, not the breed that is being targeted. Please consider our rights to keep our family pets.
