Tell Congress to Ban BPA

  • by: Matt P.

BPA is a very dangerous chemical that is found in a wide array of bottles, cans, and containers that we use in our everyday lives.  BPA has been shown to have adverse health effects, and it needs to be eliminated from the products that we use.  Sign this petition to Congress and please send the letter to target to your Senator and Representative.  This letter is from the Safer Cans campaign.

We the undersigned are very concerned about the toxic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in food and beverage containers.

BPA is a hormone-disrupting chemical that is linked to developmental effects in children and heart disease, cancer, and diabetes in adults. When it leaches out of everyday consumer products, it contaminates our bodies and the environment. Early life exposure to BPA has been linked to a host of developmental problems, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, obesity, early onset puberty, abnormal growth, hyperactivity, and the genetic defect that causes Down%u2019s syndrome.

We urge you to support the "Ban Poisonous Additives Act of 2009" (HR 1523 & S. 593) to phase out the use of BPA in food and beverage containers.  This legislation is a critical step toward protecting health, particularly the health of infants and children, and requiring that only safe chemicals be added to products we use in our homes.

While chemical manufacturers will claim otherwise, safe alternatives for BPA are already on the market for baby bottles, water bottles and many canned foods. However Congressional action is needed to ensure all food and beverage containers are free of BPA to protect the American public, particularly children, from this toxic chemical.
