Support Keeping The Mt. Crested Butte Police Dept. Policing The North End of The Valley

After almost 40 years of working together under a collaborative agreement, Gunnison County and the Gunnison Sheriff's Office is considering terminating the contract with the Mt. Crested Butte Police Department (MTCBPD). This should be of great concern to everyone living in Gunnison County.

Not only will this be a huge cost to the taxpayers, it poses serious life safety concerns to the citizens living in the north end of the valley as well as the first responders who work and serve these communities. Delayed response times from Gunnison could have seriously negative results, some potentially life threatening.

Currently the MTCBPD polices the north end of the Gunnison Valley, providing mutual aid to the Crested Butte Marshals, assisting with Fire calls and assisting local EMS providers on medical calls. A delayed response to these emergencies could put our communities and local first responders at risk.

Please show your support by signing this petition asking Gunnison County and the Gunnison Sheriff's Office to renew the contract with the MTCBPD long term. Continued renewal of the existing contract is a more responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and will better protect the safety of our communities and first responders, not just in the north end of the valley but throughout all of Gunnison County.

Don't forget to share this petition with your family, friends and neighbors!

Update #16 years ago
Thank you to everyone who has signed this petition! Although an agreement to extend the contract through 2018 was reached, we are far from an adequate, long term solution. Please keep sharing this petition with your friends, family and neighbors. We need to show our support for our officers and first responders when this issue comes up again at the end of 2018. We need to see a better, more long term solution to keep our Mt. Crested Butte Police Officers patrolling the north end of the valley.
