Stop Cruel Animal Performances at Xiangshawan Resort!

  • by: Andrew Mason
  • recipient: Xiangshawan the "Singing Sand Desert" Resort (Resident Sand Gorge)

During a visit to China I was taken by my host family to Xiangshawan and whilst there we attended a live animal show.

Here is a short summary of what I saw; you can view video of the event here:

  • What seems to be a pregnant tiger was made to jump through a ring of fire whilst being threatened by the sound of whips;
  • A goat was made to walk along a narrow rail, its legs being struck with a metal pipe every moment it hesitated;
  • A clearly psychologically harmed bear was made to dance and perform for the crowd; and
  • An elephant was made to perform, the trainer pulling its ears and striking it with a stick when it did not comply.

In addition to their treatment during the show, the animals were left outside in cages in the blistering desert heat, confined to their bleak existence.

We cannot let this go on. Please sign this petition to tell the Xiangshawan Resort to stop these cruel animal shows and give these animals a real quality of life.

Thank you!

我在这里强烈呼吁你们停止举行的残酷的动物表演。 这些看过表演的人在他们的录像里清楚的记载了这些动物正在遭受着残酷的对待跟打击。

Dear Xiangshawan Resort,

I am writing to urge you to stop the cruel animal shows you are currently hosting. It is clear from people who attend the shows and the video footage of them that these animals are being poorly treated and are depressed.

I respectfully ask that your facility stop supporting this animal abuse, and focus instead on other activities that visitors can enjoy without encouraging cruelty. These animals belong in the wild or at a sanctuary, not forced into cages in blistering heat.
