Release dolphins kept in a hotel pool

  • by: Nadja P.
  • recipient: Gran Bahia Principe Tulum Hotel

There is a growing number of hotels which host dolphins in their hotel pool for the amusement of guests. The Gran Bahia Principe Tulum in Mexico keeps six dolphins in its pool which measures approximately 20 meters long and 4 meters deep. This small pool is not an appropriate habitat for dolphins who can swim up to 150 kilometers a day and are capable of diving 300 meters deep. Being highly intelligent, sensitive and emotional animals, dolphins suffer greatly when captured and placed in inappropriate captivity. They are capable of suffering the same level of stress and panic as a human being and this cruel captivity can all too often, result in unnecessary death.

Please have a look at this video showing the dolphins (we don't have a copyright on it):

Please support our petition to release the dolphins of Gran Bahia Principe Tulum and return them to the wild in the most humane way possible.

Dear Sir or Madam,
We were shocked to discover that the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum in Mexico keeps six dolphins in its hotel swimming pool which measures approximately 20 meters long and 4 meters deep. This small pool is not an appropriate habitat for dolphins who can swim up to 150 kilometers a day and are capable of diving 300 meters deep. There may be some hotel guests who find the dolphins in the swimming pool amusing but there are many people all over the world, including the undersigned, who find this issue totally unacceptable and extremely cruel. Being highly intelligent, sensitive and emotional animals, dolphins suffer greatly when captured and placed in inappropriate captivity. They are capable of suffering the same level of stress and panic as a human being and this cruel captivity can all too often, result in unnecessary death. We call on your conscience and urge you to release the dolphins of Gran Bahia Principe Tulum and return them to the wild in the most humane way possible. We look forward to hearing from you.
