Find The Killer Of This Sacred White Spirit Moose!

Why? That's what the members of the Flying Post First Nation in northern Ontario are asking themselves as they mourn the outrageous and illegal killing of a sacred white moose, which they refer to as a "spirit moose."

If its senseless killing wasn't horrific enough, the female moose's body was found unceremoniously dumped along a lonely service road. The poachers had blatantly ignored the plethora of signs warning against the hunting of the protected creatures.

Much like white bison, ravens, and grizzly bears, the spirit moose is revered by Indigenous peoples. It owes its distinct coloring to a recessive gene and currently nobody knows exactly how many there are. The loss of a single animal is devastating.

Right now, with the support of the local community, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is investigating the killing. If we are going to ensure the poachers are held accountable, we must do everything we can to keep this crime in the news and first and foremost in the minds of local authorities. There is also a reward being offered for anyone with information.
