Provide Alternatives to Dissection for Students in Maryland

Currently, the state of Maryland has no official laws protecting students from dissection for ethical or religious reasons. Adding clear laws requiring schools to provide alternatives that have an equal time requirement to the original assignment can help students with moral or other objections to dissection obtain humane options more easily. Many states have created or are in the process of developing laws requiring K-12 schools to provide humane alternatives to students and even notify parents and students of any dissections taking place at the beginning of a course.
Add Maryland’s curriculum to the list of cruelty-free schools in the U.S. with clear rules about providing alternatives to dissections.
