Demand Barnesville Georgia City Officials STOP Removal of Historic Cemetery

TELL BARNESVILLE GEORGIA CITY OFFICALS TO STOP DIGGING UP FAMILY AND CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS

NOTE HEARING IS JUNE 12th 2018 at 9am in the Lamar County Courtroom.  Let us pack the courtroom with descendants and individuals who are AGAINST the removal of this historic cemetery.

WADSWORTH JONES CLAYTON surnames both BLACK AND WHITE.

Smith Family

BUFFINGTON FAMILY
There are thought to be 140 graves of the Wadsworth, Clayton, Jones families and their slaves buried in this cemetery.  These graves are located on what was a beautiful hilltop that has now been desecrated by the City officials of Barnesville Georgia. These graves will be removed from this hilltop for industrial expansion.

There are also victims of a horrible train collision during the Civil War buried there and there are said to be Union and Confederate Soldiers buried there in a mass grave. The crash, involving trains pulled by engines known as Dispatch and Governor killed 31 people, mostly wounded CSA soldiers and some Union Soldiers who were POW's en route to hospitals in Barnesville from the Battle of Atlanta and Jonesboro and to the Andersonville POW camp.
The cemetery sits in the center of 126 acres that the city says no one will purchase until the cemetery is removed. The cemetery is so historical and contains the remains of the first settlers of what was then PIKE COUNTY.  The City of Barnesville has done NOTHING to look for the descendants of the first black families that came to this area with their white families.  There has been no research of possible Indian families buried there.  They have focused only on white families which is wrong.
A public hearing is scheduled for July 13th at the Lamar County courthouse and they will vote to remove the graves of all.
Please help the friends and family of the Wadsworth-Clayton cemetery by telling them NO to the destruction of the old cemetery.
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE A DESCENDANT OR A FRIEND IN THE CONCERN BOX  THANK YOU SO MUCH!
