Dear Broadmoor & Saddle Hill Neighbors and HOA Board,
We're asking for your support in a heartfelt effort to protect a group of ducklings raised right here in Broadmoor — and to build a safe Duck Habitat at Broadmoor Lake.
Many of us have grown attached to the ducks that call our community lake home. They're part of what makes Broadmoor special. Sadly, we've seen domesticated ducks abandoned here, struggling to survive, and nesting ducks losing eggs to predators or unsafe conditions.
Recently, one of the last remaining ducks — now in her third year of trying — laid eggs by the lake. Year after year, she's worked so hard to have babies, but the eggs have been broken, eaten by predators, or, in the rare cases they've hatched, the ducklings have been eaten by the large-mouth bass and catfish in the lake. This time, we took her eggs in, incubated them, and raised them with the hope of returning them to their natural home — our lake. These ducklings deserve the chance to finally survive and thrive in the place they were meant to live, and together we can make that possible.
The oldest ducklings are now 1 month old and growing quickly, which means we need to move fast. We are asking the HOA for expedited approval to begin building the duck habitat as soon as possible, so these young ducks have a safe space to thrive once they return home.
Our goal is to protect the ducks, enhance our community, and give residents a way to connect with nature — all while maintaining balance and safety in the ecosystem.
