Don't Build the Border Wall Through the National Butterfly Center

  • by: Kevin Mathews
  • recipient: Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke

Recently, Homeland Security/Border Patrol started clearing trees and plants on the National Butterfly Center without warning or permission. Authorities said the destruction was necessary to make room for the future cite of the border wall.

We call on the federal government to cease all plans to put the border wall through this beautiful area established to study and help conserve wild butterflies. Since the center is several miles away from the border, the decision to build the wall there is arbitrary.

Let us not forget that people aren't the only migrants. Vulnerable butterfly species also migrate, and the wall would block out these creatures too. Don't punish butterflies with this hateful wall.
