KPFT members have heard the surprising and unpleasant news about the firing of Dr. Obidike Kamau, the interim General Manager for KPFT. The details of this sudden decision or rationale behind it is not clear to us; however, this action has already caused much confusion and division among the KPFT community and beyond. Therefore, we simply demand from Pacifica National Board and interim Executive Director to retract and halt this and any further firing until within a reasonable time a complete investigation is made. We hope PNB honors our by-laws and the democratic ways of our unique radio station in Houston. In these difficult times, we need unity to protect KPFT more than ever.

Thank you to everyone who supported Dr. Obidike Kamau in his pursuit of justice for this unfair firing. It has been a protracted battle with the National Board unfairly supporting Bill Croiser's unilateral decision to fire him. But, we have had a small victory as our Local Station Board with a majority vote (narrowly), reinstated Dr. Kamau. It has had no impact on Mr. Croiser and he and the National Board are destined NOT to be fair. We need you to come to the 10/11/17 meeting, Montrose Center.

The Local Station Board Chair has invoked Pacifica's by-law, Article 7, Section 3, c and d, challenging the firing Dr. Obidike Kamau. Tomorrow Dr. Kamau will show up to work with the support of the LSB. It will not be an easy task as there are divisions with the station and the Foundation that are long-standing. Ignoring racism is one of the problems, and not recognizing that not giving Dr. Kamau a fair shot at rectifying the station's problems is irresponsible and racist. Please SHARE this.
