WPFW, THE ONCE LONE AND AUTHENTIC VOICE OF PROGRESSIVE RADIO IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL HAS ABANDONED ITS JAZZ AND JUSTICE MISSION DUE DIRECTLY TO MISMANAGEMENT BY GENERAL MANAGER JOHN HUGHES, CAUSING LISTENERS TO WITHDRAW FINANCIAL SUPPORT, TURN THE DIAL AND TUNE WPFW OUT.
THE DEMISE OF WPFW WILL CONTINUE UNTIL JOHN HUGHES IS REMOVED AND NEW QUALIFIED AND VISIONARY MANAGEMENT IS PUT IN PLACE.

BELOW ARE REASONS WHY PETITIONERS SUPPORT THE NEED AND CAUSE TO REMOVE JOHN HUGHES AS GENERAL MANAGER OF WPFW.
JOHN HUGHES' JOB PERFORMANCE IS AND HAS BEEN LESS THAN SATISFACTORY IN EVERY MANAGEMENT SKILL AREA REQUIRED IN HIS JOB DESCRIPTION FOR GENERAL MANAGER TO THE DETRIMENT OF WPFW. MANY OF THESE REASONS WERE PREVIOUSLY DOCUMENTED AND SUBMITTED TO PACIFICA.
Evidence of John Hughes' Poor Development & Financial Management
Egregious 2 year+ delay to initiate & follow-up on any revenue generating opportunities resulting in loss, reduction, return & squandering of thousands of dollars available and/or committed to WPFW's development. Outright refusal to submit timely balanced budgets to Pacifica & LSB, violating Bylaws; insufficient accounting for expenditures related to unnecessary hires & pledge drive monies; overuse of pledge drives due to lack of imagination & poor development leadership and outreach causing membership burnout & WPFW tune out.
Evidence of John Hughes' Poor Personnel Management
Endorsement of disparities in salaries, repeated staff payroll and benefit shortfalls in violation of Bylaws & labor laws. Employee complaints addressed only after staff filed grievances mandating legal intervention & additional costs to 'PFW. Management style fuels low staff morale, decreases volunteer participation, causes resentment between staff and programmers. Inaction to address real staff safety issues forced victim(s) to stay away from WPFW. Complicit in practices against staff and volunteers that violate fundamental principles of due process and freedom of speech.
Evidence of John Hughes' Poor Program Management
Deteriorating quality, integrity, relevance and member support of programming due to Hughes': (1) ongoing disrespect of programmers; (2)continuous unilateral program changes in violation of Bylaws and LSB vote to restore grid; (3) repeated preemption of programs without timely notice and input; (4) censorship, retaliatory and discriminatory practices used to target and silence programmers; (5) alternate programming historically & culturally irrelevant and offensive to listeners; (6) promoting unqualified staff to act as "program coordinators" & selected in a manner outside of and contrary to process set forth in Bylaws for hiring a Program Director.
Evidence of John Hughes' Poor Operations & Compliance
Failure to submit timely reports jeopardizing CPB funding. FCC violations include: failure to allow visitor unquestioned & immediate access to public inspection files, March 2013; and, insufficient maintenance of station logs and on-site engineering coverage during broadcasting.
Evidence of John Hughes' Poor Public Relations Management
Hughes' failure to create new & nurture old partnerships/relationships; failure to return phone calls and antisocial people skills continue to alienate friends of WPFW who are influential in area entertainment, businesses, nonprofits, unions and institutions and who potentially and historically are sources of human and financial capital for WPFW.
MY SIGNATURE DEMONSTRATES CONTINUED DESIRE AND DEMAND THAT PACIFICA DIRECTORS TERMINATE JOHN HUGHES AS GENERAL MANAGER OF WPFW, 89.3 RADIO AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD JOHN HUGHES' CONTRACT BE RENEWED.
