Fight to Save Withernsea Community Hospital

Hull and East Riding NHS are planning to close our minor injuries clinic and our community hospital in Withernsea and relocate services to either Bridlington (3hr round trip by car and NO bus route) , Beverly 28 miles, 2-3 HR round trip with no direct bus route or Goole 45 miles away or 2-3 HR round trip, again, with no direct bus route
Withernsea is a typical seaside town with a high elderly population, many of whom do not drive. Making these sorts of journeys will be very stressful, if not impossible for many. This could lead to people not accessing the care they require or deserve (most have paid all their lives into the NHS)
There has recently been a large building programme in Withernsea, increasing the indigenous population to circa 6100 plus the annual influx of circa 4000 throughout the summer. Additionally, there are plans for a further 400 houses in the near future with the additional strain on our already stretched infrastructure and services.
I think it is very easy for those who live in the city to not appreciate the transport difficulties/costs (in both time, money and health) those living in rural areas have. If these services are removed from Withernsea, this will also impact on the Hull Royal Infirmary as people will find it easier to go straight to HRI A & E.

I urge Theresa May to rethink this strategy, provide some additional resources to improve the service offering and thus relieve some of the pressures on the HRI
