Dogs on Campus

  • by: Katelynn S

Due to some students obtaining invisible disabilities, the demand for emotional service animals has increased. Also, Old Dominion University is in close proximity to the largest Naval Base in the world, meaning there is a high population on campus who are former military and could be diagnosed with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder or any other form of emotional disorder. This group of individuals experience negative connotation because their disability is not always easily visible to onlookers, this creates an ignorant perspective that they are faking or exaggerating their symptoms in order to have their pets in public spaces.
