Punish Veterans Affairs Hospital Workers Who Let Veterans Die While Waiting for Care!

According to a new report from the U.S. Office of Special Council (OSC), two veterans suffered for years in a Veterans Affairs psychiatric facility before receiving basic treatment. In one case, a man waited eight years to receive a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, and in another case, a man was held in a facility for seven years with only one psychiatric note on his medical chart.

These outrageous incidents build on over 50 whistleblower complaints involving patient health or safety allegations at VA hospitals nationwide. According to the OSC, these allegations include "improper credentialing of providers, inadequate review of radiology images, unlawful prescriptions for narcotics, noncompliant pharmacy equipment used to compound chemotherapy drugs, and unsterile medical equipment."

VA hospitals have neglected to use these complaints to address problems with their staff and practices, and these incidents will continue until they do. Veterans worked hard and suffered greatly during their service, and deserve to enjoy the rest of their lives with their friends and families, not rotting for years in a medical facility or enduring health problems due to long wait times and other forms of patient neglect. Please sign the petition to urge VA hospitals to enact stricter hiring standards and punish neglectful staff to prevent these problems from happening in the future.

As you know, a new report from the U.S. Office of Special Council (OSC) says that two veterans suffered for years in a Veterans Affairs psychiatric facility before receiving basic treatment. In one case, a man waited eight years to receive a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, and in another case, a man was held in a facility for seven years with only one psychiatric note on his medical chart.

These incidents build on over 50 whistleblower complaints involving patient health or safety allegations at VA hospitals nationwide. According to the OSC, these allegations include "improper credentialing of providers, inadequate review of radiology images, unlawful prescriptions for narcotics, noncompliant pharmacy equipment used to compound chemotherapy drugs, and unsterile medical equipment."

As far as we understand, VA hospitals have not used these complaints to address problems with their staff and practices, and we believe these incidents will continue until they do. Veterans worked hard and suffered greatly during their service, and deserve to enjoy the rest of their lives with their friends and families, not waiting for years in a medical facility or enduring health problems due to long wait times and other forms of patient neglect. We respectfully urge you to enact stricter hiring standards and punish neglectful staff to prevent these problems from happening in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
