The Great Lakes Seaway Trail suggest a scenic and safe trip along the coast of Lake Erie. This is hard to achieve when having to compete with 18 to 26 wheel tractor trailers who avoid NYS Thruway tolls by using Rt 5 from Ripley,NY to Silvercreek, NY. These trucks use the Seaway Trail by the hundreds per day traveling in caravans of up to eight trucks at a time. This defeats the designation of The Great Lakes Seaway Trail as a trail for safe hiking and cycling. This type of traffic has also reduced the road to third world conditions and has deteriorated quality of life for residents. The burden of repair falls on NYS Taxpayers and property owners.
The solution is to change the NY Route 5 Highway to a Parkway. This would eliminate the tractor trailer traffic allowing for a user friendly tourist destination and investment opportunities for townships. There are two appropriate routes that run parallel to NY Route 5 within a 3/4 of a mile.
