The city of Varna, Bulgaria
doesn't usually make international news. But recently online publications have been shining a light on the seaside resort. Unfortunately, it's not for a good reason.
Guests at the Varna Dolphinarium
didn't get the show they had hoped for when they gathered around a dolphin enclosure to see one of the dolphins' 4 daily performances
. It was there, amongst the audience cheers that something went terribly wrong. A nine-day-old dolphin calf suddenly died during the performance.
Dolphins should never be forced to live in captivity and perform tricks for humans. The shows are unnatural and cruel. So the fact that a nine-day-old calf was forced to labor along with its mother in one of these performances is sad enough. The fact that it died because of it, is heartbreaking.
Now people around the world are demanding justice for the baby dolphin and asking officials to shut the dolphinarium down for good.
Join them by signing this petition and ask Varna officials to close the park and give the remaining dolphins to a sanctuary where they can live a life free of abuse and exploitation.
