Fracking has been approved for two sites in the UK: Kirby Misperton, and Preston New Road in the Fylde, Lancashire. These decisions go against the concerns of many local people, and ignore the warnings of environmental orgnanisations. Now, campaigners our need help to fight against fracking at a third site, also in the Fylde, which the government is set to make a decision on soon.
As extreme weather and pollution become a danger across the globe, we have to stop our leaders from adding to climate change and environmental degredation. Environmental campaigners who recognise this have pledged to continue the fight further fracking plans despite losing a recent legal battle to protect North Yorkshire from destructive fracking. "There is no support in North Yorkshire for this risky industry," said Jackie Cray, a retired vicar who was one of the claimants in the case.
The legal case illustrated the dangerous ignorance of many who support fracking, and the struggles faced in opposing this environmentally dangerous practice which the government is now considering expanding in Yorkshire's neighbouring county, Lancashire.
Donna Hume, a Friends of the Earth campaigner, said: “The judge found that North Yorkshire councillors had assessed the impacts of climate change. But we know that climate change was barely mentioned at that crucial council meeting where the decision to allow fracking was taken, and more damningly, that councillors didn’t have the information about the total carbon emissions produced.”
Please sign this petition to demand that the government listen to environmental concerns and do NOT allow fracking at another site in the Fylde, Yorkshire. If enough people sign it will be clear that we we will hold our government accountable for protecting our environment.
The UK government:
The UK public does not support fracking, which is considered to be a risky and environmentally destructive activity. As climate change and its devastating impact unfolds, we expect our government to protect the lives and wellbeing of people in this country and across the globe. That means saying no to further fracking.
Please do not allow further fracking to take place in the Fylde, Lancashire.
