As devastating floods rolled through Texas, killing over a hundred people and displacing many more, FEMA sprang into action to quickly deploy emergency response assets. Or…they would have, if Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem hadn't issued a rule requiring her personal sign-off for any expenditure over $100,000.
She didn't give permission until Monday, at which point the floods had already been raging for 72 hours, which is an eternity when it comes to disaster response.
Demand Kristi Noem resign for deliberately delaying the FEMA response to deadly Texas floods!
What the hell was she possibly doing that kept her from immediately greenlighting emergency response funding? Why would she institute such a ridiculous rule in the first place?
When confronted about her appalling failure to do the most basic function of her job, Noem dismissed the criticism. "Well there you go. Fake news," Noem said. "CNN, again, is absolutely trash, what they are doing by saying that. Because our Coast Guard, our Border Patrol, [Border Patrol Tactical Unit] teams were there immediately. Every single thing … they asked for, we were there."
Not only is she responsible for deliberately sandbagging the response to a mass casualty natural disaster, but she also doesn't even have the decency to admit it or take any accountability for her actions. She must resign immediately.
