Please sign and share this petition in an effort to encourage more research in North Carolina and their coastal shores and protect them and the marine ecosystem from ocean acidity.

Recent studies have been conducted to document short-term increases in coastal waters of North Carolina.  In the year-long course of study, it was noted that global predictions of the oceans is making its way into these waters that adds pressure on some of the marine life, especially shelled organisms that are the most prone to changes in pH levels.

Results of the Duke University studies document that the spikes in acidity are predominantly due to changes in water flow, temperatures, biological activity, human-caused climate change and other natural factors.  The common effects of the long-term ocean acidification along with short-term natural variations can combine to cause hazardous conditions for coastal marine life.

More intense studies and research needs to be implemented in an effort protect the North Carolina coasts and all the marine life affected by the increase in ocean acidity.  Throughout the studies, biologists and scientist need to determine why there is an increase in the ocean acidity and what steps are necessary to protect the coasts. In order to do so, it will be essential for predicting where and when the effects of increasing ocean acidity will be most profound, plus what organisms are the most affected as stated by one of the biologists conducting the studies.

Please sign and share this petition in an effort to encourage more research in North Carolina and their coastal shores and protect them and the marine ecosystem from ocean acidity.

North Carolina and Duke University Scientists and Biologists – As you continue your studies on the effects of ocean acidity, it is imperative that you increase your studies and research until you can take necessary steps in protecting the coastal waters of North Carolina from excess ocean acidity.  Local organisms and marine life are at stake if more is not done to guarantee a healthy water environment.
