Reestablishment of walkways and birdhouses at Store Høj Sø

Petition to call for the re-establishment of the walkways and birdhouses at Store Høje Lake, Kalvebod Commons.

Store Høje Lake is a small pearl of a lake located beautifully at the outskirts of Kalvebod Commons. Its abundance of birdhouses and picturesque walkways have for years and years been used as a means to get that step closer to nature. Both for the locals and for visitors of the beautiful Amager Nature Reserve.

But now, the show seems to be over. You, families with children, and in general people interested in exploring the unique nature at Kalvebod Commons can no longer go on exciting expeditions among the reeds.

The walkways have deteriorated to such a degree that the area has been closed down, and everything at the facility will sadly be removed later this year. This will be a big loss to everyone; fortunately, this can also be avoided, if we stick together to apply pressure to the Nature Board of Copenhagen.

This will require a certain amount of funding, though. The Nature Board of Copenhagen informs that as of April 2021 that the reestablishment of the facilities at Store Høj will amount to approximately DKR 420,000.

This amount isn't by any means astronomical and is within a possible reach. It's but a fraction of the budget allocated to construction projects at the Amager Nature Reserve. Construction projects, which haven't been allowed to proceed as planned anyways. This is following the decision of the Conservation Board of Copenhagen in December 2020 to halt these projects. Money from these projects can now be used elsewhere.

As such, it's in the interest of everyone to protect this beautiful area and make sure that it will for the foreseeable future be available for the public to visit - and enjoy.

I, therefore, encourage the members of the Citizens Board of Copenhagen to support the reestablishment of the facility at Store Høj, so that it can be enjoyed by the public for many years to come.

Besides this, by signing this petition form, you will be able to put pressure on the politicians of Copenhagen so that in the future, we will not have to deal with problems like this. Problems that should never have been allowed to occur in the first place.
