“Demand the Enforcement of a National Law for Reentry Programs, Now!”

Our country's justice system is based on the notion of rehabilitation, but many former convicts encounter substantial barriers to reintegrate into society. This petition seeks to enforce a national law that requires all states to develop an adequate reentry program. These programs should offer former convicts opportunities for education, employment, and therapy, if needed.

The United States has the world's largest incarceration rate, with over 2 million individuals now in jail (NAACP). Upon release, these individuals are often confronted by unemployment and a lack of education. According to a survey conducted by the National Institute of Justice, around 76% of released inmates were re-arrested within five years.

By offering educational opportunities and job placement aid, we can help reduce re-offense and provide these people a second opportunity in life. Therapy sessions serve to address any underlying mental illnesses that may contribute to criminal behavior.

We urge lawmakers to consider the proposal for a nationwide law that requires the establishment of reentry programs in all states. This is an investment not only in people's lives, but also in our communities and in our country as whole.

Please sign this petition if you feel that everyone should have the opportunity for a change and for society contribution after serving their sentence.
