Police raided the wrong home and violently arrested an innocent Black social worker while she was naked!

*CARE2 UPDATE* Justice is coming closer to being served as Anjanette Young has reached a settlement with the city of Chicago for $2.9 million after she was wrongfully detained in her own home and handcuffed naked for about 17 minutes. While this is a huge step for justice for Anjanette, it is still unclear how much accountability, if any, there has been within the police department. While the police accountability office recommended discplinary actions, and the police superintendent recommended the sergeant involved be fired, no clear, actual action has been taken. Keep signing and sharing the petition!

Footage that the Chicago Police Department (CPD) didn't want anyone to see has just been released, showing the wrongful raid of 50-year-old Black social worker Anjanette Young's home that happened
2 years ago. What happened during this raid makes it obvious why CPD wanted to cover this up.

Sign the petition demanding that the regulatory body Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) fire every single officer who was involved in this traumatic, violent, and wrongful raid, and change their protocols to protect human life, not the power of state!

Anjanette had just arrived home from a long shift at the hospital where she worked, and she was in the middle of undressing when a hoard of mostly white male officers broke down her door with a battering ram and barged in, pointing multiple guns at her. Bodycam footage shows her completely naked and utterly terrified, begging the officers to explain what was happening. Instead, they instantly handcuff her, leaving her helpless -- body bare and exposed, arms pinned behind her back.

At one point, an officer grabs a jacket and puts it over Anjanettes shoulders and back, doing literally nothing to cover the intimate parts of her person. It takes minutes for an officer to bring her a blanket, which he wraps around her so carelessly that it continues to flap open and expose Anjanettes naked body -- she can't hold it closed since her hands are still cuffed behind her.

Anjanette spent 13 minutes naked, handcuffed, and begging officers through tears to tell her why she was being so violently violated. A female officer finally takes her into the bedroom to uncuff her and let her get dressed. Then the cuffs are immediately slapped back on while they interrogate her, hammering her with questions about who else lives there, if there is a gun in the house, etc. Anjanette answers that she lives alone, does not own a gun, and has no idea who the name on their warrant refers to. She is continually sobbing and visibly distressed the entire time.

The name on the police warrant belonged to a man who was literally. Right. Next. Door. Worse still? That person they were looking for was on house detainment, wearing a police tracking device. All they had to do to find him...was refer to their own information. CPD had received the warrant based on an informant's tip, and not a single member of the force thought to verify that the name on the warrant matched the address.

Anjanette is pursuing legal action against CPD, and we are hopeful that she will receive justice. But the trauma that she has had to live with for almost two years, that which will follow her for the rest of her life, will not disappear if she wins her case. The CPD threatened her life, stole her dignity, and then tried to bury the entire thing until a court forced them to hand over the bodycam footage from that hellish night. Even after they had lost, CPD tried to file an emergency motion in federal court to stop the video from being aired -- they didn't want the public to know the truth.

Well now we know, and we won't stand for it. For too long, the CPD has been defined by racism, brutality, police torture, and a disregard for human rights.

Demand that every officer involved in the planning or executing of this nightmarish, wrongful raid be fired and never allowed to return to the force. CPD must then actually implement strict standards and protocols for the issuing and executing of warrants that puts human life and dignity FIRST! Sign the petition today!
