Demand the End of Homeless Camp Sweeps in Fort Wayne

This past Wednesday September 16th the American Civil Liberties Union Hawaii sued the city of Honolulu, claiming city officials deprived homeless people of food and other belonging during raids on encampments. The ACLU is seeking a court order to halt future sweeps and compensation for clients whose property has been destroyed.

Also this past Wednesday September 16th a camp was raided right here in Fort Wayne. The constitution prohibits what the city has repeatedly done to its citizens, which is to come up to them and seize and destroy their property without any recourse whatsoever. No one would allow this to happen to property owners, so why not for people who live in plain view. There is an estimated 300 to over 1,000 people living on the street on any given night in Fort Wayne, and yet no city-funded projects that offer them free and safe places to store their belongings.

The inability of traditional politics and policies to address fundamental challenges has fueled an extraordinary amount of pain in our community. Please sign this petition to end homeless camp sweeps in Fort Wayne now !
